Giuliani heads to trial over false vote fraud claims about Georgia poll workers

Rudy Giuliani goes to trial today in a civil defamation case that could force him to pay millions of dollars to two Georgia election workers he falsely accused of working to rig the 2020 presidential election against Donald Trump. A federal judge has already determined that Giuliani is liable for defaming Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, a voter registration officer, and her mother Ruby Freeman, who was a temporary worker for the election. The only question for the jury is how much Giuliani will owe in damages.

In other 2020 election litigation, earlier today the U.S. Special Counsel prosecuting Trump on federal charges of trying to overturn his defeat asked the Supreme Court to launch a fast-track review of the former president’s immunity claim.

FDIC special committee taps Cleary Gottlieb for sexual harassment probe

A special committee at the FDIC’s governing board hired Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton to conduct an independent review of sexual harassment allegations and the agency’s workplace culture, the top bank regulator announced on Monday. Cleary Gottlieb replaces the firm Baker Hostetler, which had initially been selected by the FDIC prior to the formation of the special committee. Read more.

For years, lawyers and scholars have been speculating about what would happen when a fully self-driving car – one tooling around with no human being in the front seat – seriously injured someone. After a GM Cruise unit robotaxi hit and dragged a pedestrian earlier this fall in San Francisco, that future is now.
