Borrowing Costs for Canadian Home Buyers Set to Stabilize After Interest Rates Are Held at 5%
Canadian home buyers taking out a mortgage can expect stable but elevated borrowing costs in light of the Bank of Canada’s decision to hold interest rates at 5%. This is the second time the bank has decided to keep rates steady after a series of hikes that started in March 2022. The rate pause offers “welcome relief for Canadians,” said Alana Riley, head of mortgage, insurance and banking at IG Wealth Management. The decision “can provide a sense of stability and assurance to both current and prospective mortgage holders, supporting a more predictable and sustainable environment for the housing market.” BNN Bloomberg

Late Architect Thierry Despont’s 34-Acre Hamptons Estate Is Back on the Market for $20 Million
The Hamptons home of the late French architect and designer Thierry Despont has been relisted for $20 million. Dubbed the Rosewood Farm Estate, once home to the Southampton Riding & Hunt Club, Despont purchased the property in a series of deals between 2011 and 2013, acquiring 34 acres for a total of about $8.5 million. It includes a 5,500-square-foot, six-bedroom primary residence, once the riding club’s main barn; a separate four-bedroom guest house or caretaker’s residence; a pool house converted from former stables; and a converted barn/four-car garage, which also served as Despont’s art studio. It was originally listed in May of this year for $23.5 million. Despont died in August at age 75. Robb Report
