When art meets big agriculture
“It’s hard for me to see something as pretty when the subject that I represent—the agricultural industry—is not pretty,” says Narsiso Martinez. He witnessed the industry first-hand; after immigrating from Mexico to LA at age 19, he picked produce for years, saving up in hopes of becoming an artist. Now he paints on cardboard produce boxes to capture the gritty reality of agricultural field work.

Did you know…
…that some medieval women plucked their hairlines to give the impression of a bigger forehead? A high forehead was trendy at the time, as were pointy or flat-topped hats slouched back to accentuate that beautiful bit of baldness.
