Halil DerviÅŸoÄŸlu has been named in the latest Turkey squad. The striker has spent the season on loan from Brentford to Galatasaray Spor Kulübü – in his home country. He will end it as part of his national squad.
Turkey have four games to play at the start of June as they start their UEFA Nations League campaign next month. They are in League C Group One along with Faroe Islands, Lithuania and Luxembourg. They will play six games as they attempt to win promotion to League B and have four of them coming up in the next few weeks.
They start with a game against Faroe Islands on Saturday 4 June before a pair of away games. They travel to Lithuania on Tuesday 7 June and they Luxembourg on Saturday 11 June. The last game in this sequence is against Lithuania at home on Tuesday 14 June.
Halil joined The Bees from Sparta Rotterdam in early 2020. He made seven appearances for The Bees in his first half season in England, starting in two Emirates FA Cup ties against Stoke City and Leicester City. He played twice for The Bees last season between two loan spells – at FC Twente, in the Netherlands, and at Galatasaray– featuring in a Carabao Cup win at Southampton and scoring in an FA Cup win over Middlesbrough. He also played against Forest Green Rovers in the Carabao Cup in August before making another switch to Galatasaray for the 2021/22 campaign.
The striker will be looking to add to the nine caps he has earned so far. He has scored four times for his country, which means he holds the Club Record for most goals at international level while a Brentford player. He also played twice for Turkey in the delayed UEFA 2020 European Championships, held last summer.
