Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix documentary has chartered their lives from their early romance to the explosive fall-out with the Royal Family
England rugby legend Matt Dawson admits his opinion on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle changed while watching their Netflix documentary.
The explosive docuseries has attracted interest from around the world, chartering their romance and the dramatic fall out with the Royal Family.
Like many of us, Dawson tuned in to find out what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had to say and admits: "In the first 10 minutes I was thinking, ‘Oh no, this is like a woe is me type doc’."
But the former Question of Sport captain, 50, says there was one line from Meghan that "absolutely and completely" changed his perception.
The moment Dawson is referring to is when Meghan urges viewers to listen to their story, saying: "The past six years of my life, books are written about our story from people who I don’t know. Doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”
Dawson, who won 77 caps for England, told the Express : "I just thought, do you know what, in their environment and where everyone is going to have a view of Harry because he is a bit of an adopted son to everybody after what happened in the past, I sort of thought, ok, go with it.
“We all want to know what they are like, so why don’t we just get to see what they are like. It is what it is, but at least it’s in their voice.
"We are obviously all interested in it and we are getting those little nuggets that we wouldn’t have known before, so it has definitely served its purpose. Let’s separate, you know, let’s not worry about the deal and what their life is now.
“We are interested and the nature of us and the royal family is that we want to know what is going on and we are getting told from the horse's mouth, so let’s embrace it and take it on board.”
Dawson meanwhile has confirmed he will be linking up with former Question of Sport colleagues Sue Barker and Phil Tuffnell for a live theatre tour.
