HONG KONG – July has been the hottest month of Hong Kong on record, owing to an unusually strong dominance of the subtropical ridge in southern China.
In a post shared on its verified Facebook account on Monday, the Hong Kong Observatory said 11 new weather records were made last month. The city started keeping weather record in 1884.
While Tuesday will remain very hot, showers and thunderstorms will bring cooler weather to the city from Wednesday, according to the HKO
The new records made include those of average temperature, average maximum temperature, average minimum temperature, a monthly record of very hot days and most warm nights.
While Tuesday will remain very hot, showers and thunderstorms will bring cooler weather to the city from Wednesday, according to the HKO.
The temperature will drop to the range of 26-29 C on Thursday and Friday, thanks to the rain.
“An upper-air disturbance is expected to bring heavy showers and thunderstorms to southern China in the middle and latter parts of this week,” reads the HKO’s 9-day weather forecast.
But with upper-air disturbance departing, showers will lessen over the weekend. “An area of low pressure will bring unsettled weather to the northern part of the South China Sea early next week,” reads the forecast.
