As the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic restricted people to their homes worldwide, classroom education in schools and colleges was also taken online. With uncertainties looming over regarding the reopening of everything, institutions have resorted to Google Classroom, Google Meet, and other alternatives for online classes.
To make the process of taking online classes simpler, Google gives teachers and lecturers an option to create a unique Google Meet link for each class in Google Classroom. This link acts as a dedicated meeting space for different classes.
This has eliminated the need to create a separate Meet and then go through the process of sharing it with the class.
Before creating a Google Meet link, teachers need to ensure that a class or classes have already been created on Google Classroom. In addition to this, students should also be enrolled in the class beforehand.
Step 1: Log on to classroom.google.com
Step 2: Then, teachers need to select the class for which they want to create a Google Meet link.
Step 3: Click on the ‘Generate Meet Link’ button on the Stream page.
Step 4: After a link is created, the ‘Visible to students’ option is turned on by default. This helps the students to view the Meet link when they log in.
Step 5: Click on ‘Save’. The generated link will appear both on the Stream page and in the top part of the Classrooms page.
Step 6: After the Meet link is saved, teachers or link creators should click on the ‘Meet link’, whenever they want to start the Google Meet.
The meeting officially starts as soon as you click on the link and students are then able to join.
Point to note: Students will not be able to join the link until the creator of the link has clicked on it and started the meeting.
