If you suspect that someone has blocked you on TikTok, there are tell-tale signs you can look for.
If you haven’t seen someone’s TikTok posts in a while, or you can’t direct message them anymore, you may have been blocked.
There are many reasons why someone might block you, but while you couldn’t know why without asking them, you can use these steps to figure out if you have been blocked.
There are a few ways to find out if you are blocked on TikTok: searching for their username, checking your follower lists, or checking your DMs.
Here's a look at each method…
Go to the search bar on the TikTok app and type in their username. If their account doesn’t appear in the results, you might be blocked, although they may have also deactivated or deleted their account completely. To check for that, have a friend who is definitely not blocked search for their username too. If they can find the account, but you can’t, you are blocked.
Be careful that they haven’t just changed their TikTok username though. Try searching for their full name too to be sure.
If this user was following you, and you notice your followers decreased, this may be because they blocked you. Scroll through your list (if it is not too long), and see if you can find them. If they are gone from both your followers and following list, you were probably blocked.
If you ever sent each other messages on the TikTok app, also known as direct messages or DMs, you would see them in your Inbox tab on the bottom row menu. When a user blocks you, your conversation in the Inbox tab will change so that you can’t message them anymore.
Instead of their name, it will say Account not found and their profile picture will be missing. You can still tap on that conversation to view your past messages, but you cannot send new ones.
This is different from old conversations with accounts that were deleted. Those appear as blank in your Inbox tab. This is one great way to tell if you were blocked or if someone just deleted their account.
Using these steps, you may find out that you have been blocked by another user. This can be upsetting or disappointing, but try not to take it personally.
People use the block feature for many reasons, and you cannot know for sure why they blocked you. There are plenty of other users and content on TikTok to discover.
