Huawei is still expected to launch Mate 40 and 40 Pro successors before the end of 2022. They are expected to launch as high-end phablets powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-series silicon, albeit limited to 4G/LTE connectivity. Now, they also have an interesting new Weibo leak.
A user with a name translating as Wangzai Knows Everything has posted a hand-drawn image purporting to indicate that the Mate 50 Pro will launch with cameras in a 2×2 formation, dotted with other small shapes that might be for a flash, mics or other components.
According to some equally hand-written notes around this diagram, they are laid out as follows: an ultrawide-angle camera on the top left with the main shooter next to it behind the top right lens; a back-up sensor of less certain function on the bottom left; and a telephoto lens on the bottom right). Apparently, this is one of Huawei’s leading prototype options before committing the Pro to mass production.
This, then, echoes earlier tips from perhaps better-known accounts. However, Wangzai Knows Everything then elaborates on their alleged Mate 50 inside info with the assertion that the phablets will launch with a new kind of "emergency" setting.
It apparently enables HarmonyOS 3.0 for the Mate 50 and 50 Pro to support the functions of "phone text messages and scan" (possibly for Wi-Fi or mobile networks) even when the device in question has powered off having exhausted its battery.
The leaker was not as specific as to how this new feature is supposed to work. Nevertheless, should Huawei truly have found a way to do so, it may be one way in which it hopes to make the new flagships stand out and compete in the absence of Android or 5G.
