Recently, Ma Xiaoqiang, VP of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group for the Asia Pacific region, posted some pictures of the Huawei P50 Pocket which showed an app called Petal Maps. Ma, however, is currently located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Shortly after Ma took posted the photos, digital blogger “@Wangzai Baishitong” also posted, saying “Huawei Petal Maps is really coming,” suggesting that the app may soon be launched in China.
Huawei Petal Maps was officially released in October 2020 and provides users with location services, driving navigation, real-time road conditions and other services.
In December 2021, Huawei held a new product launch conference, which not only released Huawei P50 Pocket, MateBook X Pro and other new products, but also released the first HarmonyOS AITO M5. At the conference, Huawei announced that the M5 EV will be equipped with the Huawei Petal Maps app to support automobile map services in China.
This is the first time that Petal Maps has entered China since Huawei announced the application in October 2022 at the Mate 40 series launch conference. However, at present, only vehicles equipped with the HarmonyOS intelligent console can use the app, and AITO M5 is the first mass-produced vehicle equipped with that very system.
According to Huawei, Petal Maps is equipped with many map capabilities independently developed by the company, including Super GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technology and intelligent inertial navigation and positioning technology.
