Fans of the increasingly well-subscribed book-style Huawei Mate X2 might have been blind-sided when the OEM decided to revitalize the first-gen design of the Mate X and Xs in a 2022 product launch instead of the rumored X3. However, it seems that both will be official by the end of 2022.
Huawei enthusiast and leaker The Factory Manager’s Classmate on Weibo has posted claims that a debut for the Mate X3 is still on, Xs 2 or no. It might be a strategic move to drive foldable sales for the flagging OEM, as the X3 – which may, moreover, land as a "series" – is now said to start at a "much lower" price.
Then again, this might hint at a very iterative upgrade (and 4G/LTE-only connectivity)in the Mate X3. On the other hand, it is also now exhorted to launch with a design that enhances "thinness and lightness", while folding more effectively and being "fall resistant" (all quotes Google Translated) at the same time.
These changes are also touted to control creasing in the Mate X3’s main flexible display. It is now said to launch alongside new FreeBuds 5 in December 2022.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is also now more of a bargain, particularly as a renewed unit on Amazon
