The Royal Institute of British Architects has awarded Yasmeen Lari its Royal Gold Medal for 2023 in recognition of her humanitarian work. Profit Margins on U.S. Home Sales Continue to Decline
Profit margins on median-priced single-family home and condo sales in the U.S. decreased nationwide to 44.2% as home prices stayed flat or continued to decline, according to a report from ATTOM. Attom’s first-quarter 2023 U.S. Home Sales Report showed that the drop in typical profit, from 48.7% in the fourth quarter of 2022, marked the third-straight quarterly decrease nationwide and resulted in the lowest investment return since mid-2021. Singapore Doubles the Stamp Duty Rate on Foreign Buyers
Singapore has doubled down on taxing foreign home buyers in the city-state by hiking the stamp duty starting Thursday. Any non-resident foreigners must pay a 60% surcharge, doubling the stamp duty rate on such buyers. Changes to stamp duty rates, which also increased for resident second-home buyers, foreign entities and others, are the government’s effort to slow soaring price growth and cool the market amid extremely limited inventory. Oceanfront Mansion Becomes San Francisco’s Second-Most Expensive Sale This Year
About seven months after hitting the market, a home with private beach access in San Francisco’s elite Seacliff neighborhood has finally sold, becoming the second-most expensive home sold in the city this year. Originally listed for $32 million, the home closed at $20 million, making it the neighborhood’s most expensive sale this year despite the $12 million discount. The waterfront home has five bedrooms and six and a half bathrooms as well as its own pool, a rarity among San Francisco homes. SFGate
