Alex Westner SM ’98 founded Xander, a company that uses augmented reality embedded in personalized glasses to provide real-time captions for helping people with hearing loss. “The glasses have an embedded display on the right side, where text appears almost as quickly as it’s picked up by a built-in microphone. There’s no wireless connection — all processing happens within the glasses.”  

Professor Steven Barrett discusses the pressing need to make air travel more sustainable and his research exploring the impact of contrails on the planet’s temperature. “Eliminating contrails is quite a big lever on mitigating the climate impact of aviation,” Barrett says.
