A country pub just half an hour out of the city is once again in the running to be voted one of the best in the whole of the UK. The Church Inn at Mobberley in Cheshire was voted as the top pub in the land in the National Pub and Bar Awards in both 2016 and 2019.
And this year, it’s again among the best pubs in the North West in the 2022 regional finals. It’s joined by darts-based night out Flight Club in the city centre, The Black Bull in Sedbergh, Cumbria, Bowland Beer Hall in Clitheroe and the Roxy Ball Room in Liverpool.
The 18th century Church Inn, which is Grade II listed, was saved from dereliction in 2012, restored and then re-opened in 2013, and has since been named in both the Michelin Guide and the Good Beer Guide.
Other pubs nearby to have gone through in the regional finals include the Fitzherbert Arms near Stone in Staffordshire and The Cock Inn near Ashbourne.
All the venues will now be considered for the national prize, which will be announced in London in June. On the night, the 15 regional winners will be announced, and then the top pub itself will be unveiled.
Last year, Galvin Green Man in Essex took home the title.
“Just from being out in these venues, you can see how much pubs and bars mean to people across the UK,” said Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, which hosts the event.
“With visitor numbers increasing, it’s more important than ever for operators to deliver a standout service during every visit – no matter the business in question. These 94 County Winners are wonderful examples of the brilliance of today’s modern on-trade. If you live near one of these sites, make sure you pay them a visit!”
The winners will be announced at a red carpet event at 30 Euston Square in London on June 22.
