Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Kerry Selling Sydney Trophy Home for A$40 Million
Former Olympic swimmer, gold medalist Mark Kerry and his wife, Lynda, an interior designer, are selling their Sydney trophy home with a guide price between A$38 million and A$40 million (US$26 million and US$27 million). The five-bedroom residence stands on an acre with terraces, a pool and a cabana overlooking the harbor. Mr. Kerry, 63, who won gold in the 1980 Moscow Olympics, bought the property in 2020 for A$11 million. Russians Are Buying up Condos on Thailand’s Phuket Island
Since cross-border travel resumed between Russia and Thailand in October, Russians have become the leading home purchasers on the island of Phuket, according to Thailand’s Real Estate Information Center. Russians accounted for 40% of owners of all condos in Phuket, overtaking Chinese buyers from the top spot. Concerned about the long-term prospects for their own country’s economy, Russians are stepping up their acquisitions of safe haven properties in Southeast Asia, local Thai agents said. The Diplomat
India’s Luxury Property Market Is Rebounding
India’s luxury residential market is on the path to revival as many people upsize. The country’s leading developer DLF sold a $1 billion luxury residential project—Arbour project in Gurugram near New Delhi—in 72 hours, receiving more than 3,000 applications for 1,137 apartments priced at US$869,000 each. Another developer, Godrej Properties, is offering US$3 million apartments to clients by invitation. The demand for larger apartments with modern amenities is boosted by India’s growing number of nouveau riche, industry experts say. Reuters
Famed Architect Rafael Viñoly Dies at Age 78
Rafael Viñoly, a Uruguayan-born architect who was behind many modern buildings around the world, including one of the tallest residential towers, 432 Park Avenue in Manhattan, died last week at the age of 78. His most recognizable works also include the Tokyo International Forum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Carrasco Airport in Montevideo and the “Walkie-Talkie” building in London. He died of an aneurysm at New York’s Presbyterian Hospital in Lower Manhattan on Thursday, according to his firm. NPR
