In October, as Kyiv was enduring a deadly round of Russian missile strikes, Alina Frolova broke her leg in a fall in her 17th floor apartment. While her accident didn’t have anything to do with attacks themselves, she still found herself needing to go to the hospital. And with the electricity out, that meant a long, painful descent by stairs from her high-rise apartment in complete darkness.
“I borrowed a folding stool from the neighbors and hopped down 17 floors on one leg,” Frolova told Bloomberg CityLab. “It took me half an hour.”
