TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The governments of Indonesia and China signed a number of bilateral agreements in the fields of economy, maritime, and trade after the G20 Summit in Bali, on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. The signing was witnessed by Indonesian President Jokowi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The five agreements are as follows:
During the meeting, President Xi stated his commitment to strengthening bilateral partnership with Indonesia. “I am willing to have in-depth strategic communication with the President (Jokowi),” Xi said.
One of the ongoing strategic cooperation projects between the two countries is the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train which was targeted to operate in June 2023. Other collaborative projects include the Weda Bay Industrial Area, the Morowali Industrial Area, and the North Kalimantan Green Industrial Area.
There are also the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center, the Two Countries Twin Park, and other collaborative projects that will bring significant impacts on development in Indonesia.
At the meeting, Jokowi greeted Xi Jinping as a big brother. “Once again I would like to welcome President Xi Jinping to Bali and it’s my pleasure to welcome Big Brother in Bali after our meeting in Beijing,” Jokowi said as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat Youtube, Wednesday, November 16, 2022.
Jokowi also congratulated Xi Jinping who was recently re-elected as General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party.
On the sidelines of the bilateral meeting, Jokowi and Xi Jinping watched the trial run of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train virtually from Bali. The train was driven by both Chinese and Indonesian engineers named Mu Zhen and Supriadi, respectively.
