Recently, Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO, and Smart Car Business Unit Head, Yu Chengdong sat in an interview with Chinese media and revealed how difficult it was to produce Huawei Mate 50 series.
Yu revealed how difficult it was to make Huawei Mate 50 with limited resources. These include major faults in the supply chain as well as limited chip supplies.
These issues created hurdles in Huawei Mate 50 manufacturing. However, the Huawei team did a good job and made big efforts in order to bring the flaghip into production.
Yu also said that someone from inside the firm told him that it was impossible to succeed. The cost was higher than others, and there are so many restrictions on the company to gather the required technologies. Yet, Yu was determined to make the product succeed.
After the launch of the Mate 40 series 5G, Huawei is bounded to launch only 4G phones. It’s due to the past U.S. restrictions and the lack of 5G R.F. chipset components.
Since last year, Huawei is launching 4G smartphones, while the competitors have 5G. Huawei P50 and Mate 50 series are packed with 4G chips.
Yu mentioned that Huawei doesn’t have 5G but the company has improved 4G performance. On the other hand, WiFi 6 fills the gap of the 5G network requirement.
In Mate 50 series, Huawei is offering various new technologies such as Satellite Communication. For your information, the Mate 50 is the first smartphone to feature a brand-new network tech, followed by iPhone 14.
Later on, the Huawei consumer business chief expressed that if Huawei Mate 50 doesn’t well, he would be very sad. However, when he knew that the flagship is doing pretty well, he knew that Huawei is back in the game.
Huawei Mate 50 series is one of the best flaghip around the globe. Despite not having the 5G, Huawei loaded this device with various high-end features such as XMAGE imaging technologies, high-res pictures, beautiful designs, and more.

2023 is on the horizon and Huawei is preparing to return to the dual flaghip launch tradition. Speaking of which, there’s new information that reveals the Huawei P60 and Mate 60 models will go full-on Qualcomm mode.
According to the Weibo tipster Wangzai, it is revealed that the Huawei P60 and Mate 60 series will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 4G chipset respectively.
The tipster further said that the Huawei P60 and Mate 60 series will resume the dual-flagship tradition.
Yet we can assume that Huawei may not be using Kirin next year on the flagship smartphone. However, we don’t have an exact amount of information on what Huawei is actually planning for these two flagships.
Qualcomm:
Since the launch of the Huawei P50 series, the company increased the use of Snapdragon chipsets. This step is taken due to the reduced Kirin chip stock.
This year, Huawei unveiled new smartphones and tablets featuring Qualcomm processors in all categories. The flaghip, Huawei Mate 50 is the first to use Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G mobile processor.
Going forward, Huawei is likely to stick with Qualcomm, as there are still some issues in Huawei’s supply chain unit.
Not Gen 2 in P60?
There are a number of inputs on the P60 series and the last one suggested that the phone could be powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2. This makes sense and since the chipset is already launched, it should easily move on to that platform. Instead of choosing the first-generation processor.
Also, it’s expected that the Huawei P60 series could launch near March-April 2023. Yet, we can’t determine the unveiling at the moment.
Kirin:
Other than the Huawei P60 series, consumers were expecting Kirin to return with Mate 60 series. But a Huawei report confirmed that the chipset won’t be returning next year. Yet, we have got a lot to explore and there’s an entire year waiting for us ahead.
