Tim Sherwood says Fabio Paratici’s worldwide ban by FIFA is ‘historic’ as he criticised Tottenham Hotspur for not doing their due diligence prior to appointing him.
In January, Tottenham’s managing sporting director was handed a 30-month ban for alleged financial mismanagement at Juventus – that ban only counted for activities within Italian football, but it has now been extended worldwide by FIFA, as reported by Sky Sports.
This now means that Daniel Levy doesn’t know who his manager will be for next season, after Antonio Conte’s sacking, Fabio Paratici is banned and Harry Kane will have 12 months left to run on his contract in the summer.
Perhaps to top it off and really rub salt into the wounds, Spurs won’t finish in the Champions League places this season and Arsenal will wave from afar with their possible Premier League title.
The club seems to be in a mess, but given some of the above possibilities, it could actually get worse – Jamie Redknapp certainly feels the rise of their north London rivals isn’t helping.
Either way, former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood isn’t a happy bunny and he thinks they are a ‘laughing stock’, as he reacted to the news regarding Paratici, as he told talkSPORT (29/03/23).
“It doesn’t look good,” said Sherwood. “The fans are feeling it more than anyone. Your club is becoming a laughing stock and it shouldn’t be.
On Paratici: “It looks like they can’t even pick a sporting director. They should have done their due diligence on him. It’s historic what we are talking about here, the misdemeanours Paratici has had. They should have known about this.”
TRYING TO APPOINT A NEW MANAGER
The crazy thing here is that Tottenham are trying to appoint a full-time manager for next season and they are probably talking to agents, plus possible candidates – there were claims that Julian Nagelsmann’s agent was in London recently.
What a way for the club to present itself!
From Luis Enrique to the possible return of Mauricio Pochettino, surely, if you are looking at the Spurs job from afar, at this moment in time, you remain patient because what direction is the club actually headed down?!
