TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Special Capital Region (DKI) of Jakarta government proposed a budget of Rp3.63 trillion for flood control and prevention in the Draft General Policy on Budget-Priority Budget Ceiling (KUA PPAS) of 2023. The proposal was delivered during a Budget Board Meeting yesterday, Oct. 27.
“Regarding infrastructure, the strategic activity is flood prevention with an indicative ceiling of Rp3.63 trillion,” the city’s Regional Development Planning Agency head, Atika Nur Rahmania, said during the meeting.
Flood control is included in Jakarta’s development priorities and targets for aspects of infrastructure development and quality basic urban services.
The Jakarta government is planning eight activities to tackle flooding. The first is land acquisition and constructing or increasing the capacity of rivers or streams, lakes or ponds or reservoirs. Second, the construction of coastal safety dikes and river mouths.
The third is the development of a flood forecasting warning system (FFWS). Fourth, construction of fully equipped channels and infrastructure or facilities. Fifth, construction or procurement of heavy equipment, pumps, and sluice gates.
The sixth activity covers the maintenance and dredging of flood control and drainage infrastructure. The seventh is the provision of public kitchens and buffer stock and the eighth is increasing the capacity of disaster preparedness cadets.
In 2020, the Jakarta government and the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry signed an MoU on the construction of a National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD). The construction of the 33.2-kilometer NCICD is targeted for completion in 2024.
