TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – United States President Joe Biden and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping reportedly will take part at the G20 Summit in Bali. Indonesia’s President Joko Jokowi Widodo confirmed their presence and the other 17 heads of state at the November 15-16 summit.
“Yes, 17 [leaders of state] are confirmed [to attend G20],” said Widodo as broadcasted on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube on Tuesday, November 18, 2022.
He claimed the number of countries that have confirmed their presence is quite a lot. Because in a normal position, the number of G20 summit attendance is usually 17-18 countries.
“This is an abnormal situation. The world is in difficulties. All countries are facing difficulties. If the attendance [number] reaches that, I think it is very good,” the President remarked.
Meanwhile, regarding the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Widodo said the presence of the two conflicting leaders is still uncertain. They, he added, may attend physically depending on the conditions.
“They said that they will be present if the conditions allow. But if not, then, President Zelenskiy will attend virtually,” said Jokowi.
As previously reported, Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said the level of attendance of world leaders at the G20 Summit will be very high. According to her, invited guests will start arriving in Bali on November 13 and 14, 2022. They will then leave Bali right after the summit is over on November 16, 2022.
