TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday said Indonesia will continue to support Palestine during the visit of Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh at the West Java Presidential Palace.
“Indonesia will consistently support what Palestinians are fighting for and I hope his excellency’s visit will strengthen the good relations between the two countries,” said the President as he welcomed the PM on October 24.
The main reason behind this support, Jokowi reiterated, is due to the fact that Palestine was one of the first nations to acknowledge Indonesia’s independence. He asserted that Indonesia would consistently return the favor.
“Palestine is a close friend to Indonesia,” said the President.
PM Shtayyeh’s entourage, according to a press statement from the Presidential Palace, arrived in Indonesia this morning at 7.45 am at Soekarno Hatta International Airport.
In this welcoming ceremony, Jokowi will plant a tree together with Shtayyeh at the Bogor Palace which will be followed by discussions towards cooperation between the two countries.
Jokowi‘s prior meeting with Shtayyeh took place at the COP26 World Leaders Summit, at the Scottish Event Campus, Glasgow, Scotland, on Monday, November 1, 2021.
