TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in a press conference at the Indo Defence Expo & Forum 2022 on Wednesday said that out of the majority of state leaders who will attend the G20 Summit in Bali, there are just three who have yet confirmed their attendance.
“I will make some calls to confirm it,” said the President in Central Jakarta on November 2.
However, he did not specifically mention who the individuals are but said that 17 state leaders confirmed attendance was above average even in normal circumstances. “This means that during difficult times, their attendance is an honor for us,” he added.
One of the invitees who have not been confirmed is Russian President Vladimir Putin, who revealed it during an interview in Sochi on October 31.
The G20 Summit in Bali will be held on November 15-16. Indonesia’s presidency this year focuses on post-pandemic global economic recovery with the prioritization of the health sector, digital transformation, and energy transition.
However, the G20 Summit this year is overshadowed by the global crisis in the food and energy sector, which was triggered by the Russia-Ukraine war. In a number of ministerial meetings, several Western countries led by the United States strongly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its impact on the food and energy crisis.
Putin is also still considering the form of his participation at the meeting of leaders of APEC member countries in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 19, which precedes G20.
