Kane County Animal Control will host a rabies and microchip clinic for pets from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 4 at its facility at 4060 Keslinger Road in Geneva.
The clinic will be conducted drive-thru style. Dog and cat owners pull up in their vehicle and let the staff and volunteers do the work, event organizers said. People do not need to get out of their cars, but are asked to wear a mask, officials said.
The cost of a one-year rabies vaccine with tag is $22 for neutered pets or $40 for non-neutered animals. Seniors receive a discounted rate of $10 for getting their pets vaccinated. Microchips are also available for $15. Cash, check, VISA and MasterCard are accepted for payment.
The clinic will run with two teams, each consisting of a doctor and staff, plus clerks to process paperwork and finances, officials said. The staff will leash the pet and transport them to the exam station. While the medical crew performs the exam and vaccinations, a clerk completes the rabies certificate and another handles payment.
Once the procedure is completed, the vet will communicate with the owner in their car. After each vehicle pulls away, the staff cleans the station for the next client.
Future clinics are planned for August, September and October, officials said. Exact dates for the clinics have not been announced.

State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, will hold a free community shredding event Saturday to help Aurora residents safely dispose of sensitive documents and needless clutter, event organizers said.
Hernandez is partnering with KCT Credit Union and Aurora Public Library District to hold the event, set for 9 to 11 a.m. at Santori Public Library at 101 S. River St. in downtown Aurora.
Anyone interested in donating to the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry should bring canned or nonperishable food items to the event, according to organizers.
“Shred events like this are opportunities to do some spring cleaning and clear out old clutter, which is always a good feeling,” Hernandez said in a press release about the event. “More importantly, you can also safely dispose of sensitive financial documents that criminals could use for financial crimes, including identity theft. You also have the option to donate food to the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry.”
Only paper materials will be accepted, but small paper clips and staples do not need to be removed from documents before shredding, according to organizers.
The event will end early if the shred truck fills up, officials said.
