Kanye West says he has asked former US President Donald Trump to be his running mate after announcing he intends to make a bid for the White House in the 2024 election.
The 45-year-old rapper – who has legally changed his name to “Ye” – confirmed earlier this week that he is eyeing another bid for the Presidency after a failed attempt in 2020.
On Tuesday, the former husband of Kim Kardashian claimed on Twitter that he asked Mr Trump to be his running mate when he paid him a visit at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.
“First time at Mar-a-Lago. Rain and traffic. Can’t believe I kept President Trump waiting. And I had on jeans… Yikes… What you guys think his response was when I asked him to be my running mate in 2024?” he tweeted to his 32.2m followers.
The dad-of-four included a poll featuring two options – “That’s very Ye” or “That’s very Nay”. On Wednesday around 58 per cent of voters had gone for the “That’s very Ye” option.
The controversial star, who lost several business partnerships after making antisemitic remarks last month, has enlisted far-right Milo Yiannopoulus as his campaign manager.
He ran for US President as an independent candidate in 2020. He received almost 70,000 votes and ultimately lost to US President Joe Biden.
Trump, who lost the White House in the 2020 election, announced last week that he will be running again in 2024.
