Karaoke, entertainment clubs, bars, discos, and beer gardens are shut today (July 10th) to mourn assassinated former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, by order of The Ministry of Tourism.
The notice was issued on the recommendation of Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The notice says that ‘Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated on July 8, 2022.
In the past, he has fulfilled important tasks and missions for building friendship with the people of Cambodia and raising the level of bilateral relations between Cambodia and Japan as a strategic partner in helping to develop Cambodia in many areas, including infrastructure, resource building. People and other development programs.
To join the Royal Government, which declared July 10, 2022 as an official day of mourning, the Ministry of Tourism has introduced the following:
1. Owners or business managers of karaoke (KTV), entertainment clubs, bars, discos and beer gardens throughout the provincial capitals must suspend business activities for one day, on July 10, 2022.
2. The owner or manager of the restaurant and canteen business must suspend the sale of alcohol for one day, on July 10, 2022.
3. The Director of the Capital-Provincial Department of Tourism shall disseminate and educate the owners or managers of the above tourism services business to implement the business suspension in accordance with this circular effectively and responsibly.’
In a special voice message early Saturday morning, Prime Minister Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, instructed all public and private institutions across the country to fly the flag at half-mast on Sunday to show Cambodia’s solidarity and mourning with the royal family, government and people of Japan for the loss of the former Prime Minister, a great friend of Cambodia.
“We were shocked to learn about the passing of H.E. Abe Shinzo, who was an outstanding Japanese statesman and who had worked closely with Cambodia in enhancing the bilateral relations between the two countries during his premiership, including the elevation of the bilateral cooperation to Strategic Partnership in 2013,” he said.
Mr Abe was shot dead during a speech on Friday in the city of Nara, near Kyoto, Japan.
Footage from Japanese media showed Mr Abe’s speech interrupted by two loud bangs from a shotgun, with Mr Abe stumbling to the ground after the second shot.
TBS Television reported that Mr Abe had been shot on the left side of his chest and apparently also in the neck.
Members of Abe’s security detail wrestled a man to the ground behind the former prime minister.
The suspect was wearing a grey shirt, light brown trousers and grey trainers.
His face was partly obscured by a surgical mask.
He reportedly did not attempt to flee before being detained at the scene.
National broadcaster NHK said a suspect, named by police as Tetsuya Yamagami, a 41-year-old resident of Nara, had been taken into custody but provided no further details.
NHK initially quoted firefighters as saying Mr Abe showed no vital signs.
Mr Abe was later confirmed to have died in hospital.
