During the ITMA 2023 exhibition in Milan from June 8-14, Karl Mayer Group won arbitration proceedings for infringed industrial property rights relating to its Bluedye indigo dyeing machine.
Indian company Jupiter Comtex, a competitor in the warp preparation sector, presented a unit for indigo dyeing infringing one of Karl Mayer’s industrial property rights by containing patent-protected solutions for the Bluedye.
Shortly after the opening of ITMA 2023, an intellectual property rights arbitration panel of show organiser Cematex consulted with both parties and found in favour of Karl Mayer.
As a result, Jupiter Comtex had to cover its indigo dyeing equipment for the remainder of the trade fair.
Karl Mayer spends around 18% of its turnover on R&D and related investments, with R&D centres around the world.
Compared to systems with conventional process control, Bluedye indigo dyeing technology uses considerably less water and chemicals. The need for hydrosulphite and caustic soda – the main environmental polluters of the process – can be more than halved and the volume of water required can also be significantly reduced. In addition, less yarn waste is produced, enabling operating costs to be cut by up to 20%.
According to a study by Germany’s VDMA machinery association from 2022, around 72% of companies surveyed were victims of product or brand piracy. The estimated losses due to this amounted to approximately €6.4 billion in 2021.
