If your child enjoys rolling and tumbling, how about some gymnastics for kids? There’s a gym in Singapore that offers gymnastics classes in a purpose-built centre. SWAGA Gym focuses on fundamental, competitive and holiday camps for gymnastics in Singapore. Check out what suits your budding gymnast!
If your child is just beginning, the Fundamental Gymnastics programme by SWAGA Gym will help them learn basic gymnastics skills and encourage participation. Kids will also have fun and get fit in the process.
Gymnasts will be introduced to the idea of structured gymnastics classes as they work through eight progressive levels of skills and abilities. The programme is built around Australian and Singaporean gymnastics levels and is suitable for all skill levels.
There’s a continual evaluation every eight weeks of the Fundamental Gymnastics programme for kids. This helps each gymnast understand where they are on their gymnastics journey in terms of skills development, individual abilities and individual progress.
SWAGA Gym has set high standards for each level to ensure that all gymnasts have good competency before progressing to the next level. As they progress to higher levels, the skills take longer to master.
So while gymnasts shouldn’t expect to progress to higher levels at each evaluation, it will help them to continually progress in their gymnastics skills and demonstrate improvements.
Fundamental Gymnastics for kids is coached by a team who are certified under the Singapore National Registry of Coaches. All weekly class slots are 75 minutes; and the fee is $241 per month.
“As a gymnast for the national team, it feels good to be able to share my knowledge and experience to the younger generation. I enjoyed teaching my fundamental students and seeing how they improved over a period of time.” – Coach Wan Qing, 26 years old
This programme by SWAGA Gym is for a gymnast who desires to represent SWAGA and their school in gymnastics in Singapore and achieve podium positions.
As they constantly seek to surpass oneself, a gymnast needs to be physically strong, mentally stable and emotionally sound, coupled with an excellent support system at home.
Gymnastics classes in the Competitive programme are designed to help any dedicated and talented gymnast to become a very successful “total package athlete”. Gymnasts usually enter this competitive programme by invitation only and through a thorough trial process. The levels used for training are Australian and Singapore, as well as in accordance with Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG) rules.
A competitive athlete requires a commitment of minimum two days per week; gymnasts progress quicker when less time lapses between workouts.
The gymnastics classes are structured around Singapore Gymnastics Competitive Routines with a strong emphasis on building strength and flexibility required for more advanced gymnastics leading toward FIG rules.
All Competitive gymnastics classes are a minimum of two hours. Fees are based on the number as well as length of sessions.
“I’ve been in SWAGA Gym for about a year and a half. My favourite coach is Khaliq as he is kind, funny and always supportive. My favourite routine is Bars because I feel like I can fly.” – Sarah Chan-Sew (8)
The holiday camps at SWAGA Gym are a good way to keep kids active during the school break. The recreational camp lets children try out different gymnastics such as floor, bars, beam, vaults and trampolines.
As kids explore their athletic prowess, they get to improve their balance, control, flexibility, strength and coordination. At the same time, they develop social and teamwork skills in a fun-filled environment.
Holiday gymnastic camps are open to children four to 15 years old. Each camp runs five days a week, 9am to 12 noon each day. The next camp dates are 19 to 23 December and 26 to 30 December. Cost per child is $360 per week.
All the coaches at SWAGA Gym are certified under the Singapore National Registry of Coaches. They have years of professional gymnastics experience, including backgrounds in competitive gymnastics in Singapore and overseas, and judging. All children train and practice under their watchful eyes and safe guidance.
