King Charles’ schedule for the next six days ahead of his mother’s funeral has been revealed.
The new monarch will attended a series of public engagements which will included him attending a procession of his mother’s coffin at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh in Scotland.
He will also have an audience with Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, visit Wales and head to Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland to view an exhibition on his mother’s association with the country, which she visited 25 times over eight decades.

The King will meet the Commonwealth Secretary General Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC at Buckingham Palace before hosting Realm High Commissioners (ambassadors for the Commonwealth) and their spouses in the Bow Room at Buckingham Palace.
The King and his wife Camilla, who has become The Queen Consort after he acceded the throne, will travel to Westminster Hall where both Houses of Parliament will meet to give their condolences for his mother and he will make his reply.
His Majesty’s mother’s coffin is set to be taken from where it currently lies in the Ballroom at Balmoral Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland on Sunday and laid to rest there overnight until Monday morning.
After visiting Westminster Hall, the royal couple will then travel to Edinburgh by air where they will attend a procession of the coffin at the palace – now one of his official residences following the Queen’s death.
His Majesty will lead the procession, which will also be attended by members of the Royal Family, before the coffin is taken to St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh.
The King will also inspect a Guard of Honour at the palace and attend The Ceremony of the Keys – an ancient ceremony which sees a British monarch being handed the keys of the city of Edinburgh.
The King will then attend a prayer service which will reflect the life of his mother at St Giles’ Cathedral, after her coffin is taken to lie at rest there.
The King will then return to the Palace where he will have audiences with Ms Sturgeon and the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Alison Johnstone.
The King and The Queen Consort will then attend the Scottish Parliament where a Motion of Condolence will be held – allowing SNP’s to reflect on the life of the Queen.
His Majesty will then make his reply to the comments.
That evening, The King will hold a vigil with Members of the Royal Family at St Giles’ Cathedral.
The King and The Queen Consort will travel by air to Belfast, and then on to Hillsborough Castle, an official Government residence in Northern Ireland.
There, they will view an exhibition on the Queen’s long association with Northern Ireland.
The King will then meet the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Chris Heaton-Harris, and party leaders and receive a message of condolence led by the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Alex Maskey.
The King will make his reply to the message of condolence.
After a short reception at Hillsborough, The King and The Queen Consort will travel to St Anne’s Cathedral in Belfast for a service of Prayer and reflection.
Before the service, His Majesty will meet leaders from all the major faiths in Northern Ireland, before the royal couple travel to London.
The King will lead the procession of members of the Royal Family in London, as a Gun Carriage carries her body to Westminster Hall, where she will lying in state for four days to allow the public to pay their respects to her, ahead on the funeral on Monday, September 19.
No official engagements have been scheduled for the King on this day
The King and The Queen Consort will visit Wales. Further details of this visit are set to be revealed at a later date.
