Plus Misti Norris at the Exchange and a Plano Champagne bar in this week’s dining intel
It’s been above 95 degrees in North Texas for too much of May already, and obviously, the best cure for overheating is to apply some ice cream. Happily, Dolly Llama, a Los Angeles-based ice cream and waffles dispensary that serves intensely Instagram-friendly scoops, is opening its first Texas location on Saturday, May 28.
If you want to taste its vibe at full California intensity, the company suggests ordering up the Dolly’s Dream Bubble Waffle. It’s made with a Hong Kong bubble waffle cone, ultimate Cookie Monster ice cream (electric blue with big honking chunks of cookie in it), chocolate sauce, whipped cream, brownies, and strawberries on top.
Find it in Uptown at 2817 Howell Street, Suite 210.
A coffee and Champagne bar is coming to Plano that wants you to visit all day and all of the night. Fizz will feature two bars and what it promises will be one of the most extensive champagne lists in Dallas and Fort Worth, with 20 Champagnes and 50 sparkling wines on offer. There will, of course, also be a cocktail program, and as for food, the spot will offer a build your own charcuterie board menu made from meats and cheeses from around the world.
Fizz is the brainchild of Jeff Murtha, the man behind Fort Worth’s ‘80s dance club Studio 80. It will open on Friday, May 27, and you can find it at 3310 Dallas Parkway, Suite 115 in Plano.
A new restaurant and a speakeasy downtown? Sounds unbee-lievable. The Beehive is set to open in May, Culture Map reports. It will be a sister restaurant to Sky Lounge in the Mid-Elm Lofts building. Plans are to serve new American cuisine. Later this year, the Bee-Cave will reportedly follow in the basement — plans are for it to operate like a speakeasy, full of cozy couches and delightful cocktails.
The Exchange food hall in AT&T Discovery District downtown is revamping its second-floor offerings. The birds-eye view location of the plaza is going to become Attalie, a rotating chef concept and private dining area. Chef Misti Norris of Petra & the Beast, and a James Beard nominee, is the first to take over the space, where she’ll host an eatery called Stepchild in June and July.
Downstairs will also see some changes, with Ichi Ni San moving from the second floor to the ground floor and rebranding as a poke bowl and sushi concept called Ichi. Plus, the additions of Birdie, for all your fried chicken needs, opens on Monday, May 23, and Easy Slider follows on Wednesday, June 1.
