Lake Humane Society has launched a special project coined “Operation Healing” to raise funds for the Veterinary Medicine Department to upgrade outdated medical equipment and purchase new tools to help more pets in need.
Lake Humane Society operates two on-site veterinary clinics to provide lifesaving medical treatment to homeless pets and operate community programming. In 2021, the medical team provided 782 spay/neuter surgeries as well as 3,505 vaccines, according to a news release.
“Most of the medical equipment we utilize was generously donated by local veterinary offices many years ago,” Shelter Manager Megan Newkirk stated in the release. “At that time, they had recently upgraded their own equipment and no longer had use for the earlier models, “Many of these tools need serviced often and we are uncertain how much longer they will continue to operate.
“With more animals arriving in need of medical care, it is vital that we upgrade our equipment.”
Operation Healing has a goal of $50,000. Funds raised will go towards the purchase of new medical equipment, including a surgical table, anesthesia machine, surgery packs and more. Western Reserve Junior Service League, Banfield Foundation and other supporters have already supported this project and Lake Humane Society is 75% of the way to their goal, the release stated.
The organization said the success of Operation Healing would help this small non-profit continue to help more pets in need and grow community programming, such as Trap, Neuter, Return and Wellness Clinic.
