The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has once again reminded all of its citizens against travel to Belarus.
Through one of its recent releases, the Ministry said that the recommendation against travel to Belarus continues to remain valid, and the same said that all citizens of Lithuania who are currently in Belarus should return as soon as possible, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds once again about the valid recommendation for citizens of the Republic of Lithuania not to go to Belarus, and for those who are currently there, to leave Belarus immediately,” the statement of the Ministry reads.
Making such a call, the Ministry said that the Belarusian institutions have been making “hostile and provocative actions” against citizens of Lithuania who are in the country.
According to the Ministry, Lithuanians in Belarus are being detained unjustly and are being presented with false charges. For this reason, everyone has been required to return to Lithuania.
“Recently, the hostile and provocative actions of Belarusian institutions against the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who are already present or have temporarily arrived in the Republic of Belarus have intensified. Citizens of Lithuania are illegally detained; they are presented with fabricated charges,” the Ministry stated.
Apart from making the above-mentioned recommendations, the Ministry further stressed that all those who decide to travel to Belarus will pose a threat to their own safety.
Lithuania keeps on updating its recommendations for travel to Belarus, and the country also continues keeping strict border rules.
Previously, the Lithuanian authorities said that the entire border section with Belarus is being monitored by modern monitoring systems at all times.
The Ministry of Interior of Lithuania said at the end of March that the country is consistently trying to make improvements to its border monitoring systems in order to keep in check all kinds of movements as well as prevent any hybrid attack coming from Belarus.
Commenting on the monitoring of the entire 678.83-kilometer-long border section with Belarus, the Minister of Interior of Lithuania, Agnė Bilotaitė, said that enhanced border security is essential to prevent attacks coming from the country.
Moreover, the same emphasised that the country will take further measures to ensure its national security.
“After the installation of the border monitoring systems is completed, the next step is the installation of a patrol path and a control strip along the entire stretch of the border with Belarus,” Minister Bilotaitė said back in March.
By strengthening the measures, the Lithuanian authorities aim to respond more swiftly to violations and prevent irregular migration to the country.
