A lengthy diversion route is in place
The M1 is closed after a serious collision on the road. A diversion route is now being put in place and cars currently queueing are being turned around between J16-18 in Northamptonshire.
The incident happened on the northbound carriageway at about 5.30am on Tuesday, January 31. The emergency services are in attendance.
Motorists must exit the M1 at J16 and then follow the diversion signs before re-joining the M1 at J18. The full diversion route has been posted as a blog update below this story.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
