MTV Founder Buys 1970s Time-Capsule Home in Southern California
John Sykes, co-founder of MTV and president of entertainment enterprises for iHeartMedia, has purchased a Santa Moncia, California, home that’ll transport anyone who steps inside back to the 1970s. Built in 1941, the home has been in the same hands since 1972, when it sold for just $150,000. Though the home’s interior maintains that ’70s style, with its wood paneling and outdated wallpaper, its location on a prestigious Santa Monica street and panoramic views of the mountains and ocean make it a luxury home. Sykes paid $7.9 million, a discount off the $9.5 million asking price. Across the almost 4,000 square feet, there are five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Robb Report
Canadian Home Sales Slowed in October
Though home sales in Canada were up annually in October, they fell a staggering 5.6% from September. The Canadian Real Estate Association said this might mean that many buyers and sellers are holding off until spring to make deals. “We’re only in November, but it appears many would-be home buyers have already gone into hibernation,” CREA chair Larry Cerqua said. Last month, 33,921 homes sold across the country, which is 0.9% higher than last October. Additionally, the national average home price increased by 1.8% annually to C$656,625 (US$480,508).
