Dreaded are the days when you find out your favourite pub or restaurant is closing its doors. Most of us will have been there, the sad feeling you get when that place you've been a loyal patron of for years is saying farewell for the last time.
And despite being an extraordinarily popular place for food and drink, with more than 6,000 food establishments, Cornwall is not immune to the loss of business, no matter how fantastic they may be.
Over the years we've seen places come and go, even those you might never expect to say farewell to. And we recently asked our readers to take a trip down memory lane and tell us some of your favourite lost or forgotten pubs, restaurants and cafés that are no longer with us.

We asked the question in light of the sad news that Cornwall had already lost nine popular restaurants and pubs by June 2023. And here's what you said about the ones you miss the most, or wish you could visit again.
Among the missed pubs were the Britannia Inn in Truro, one of the last traditional pubs in the city, before it closed in July 2021. The Globe also got a mention, with one person saying "who doesn't miss this place?". The General Wolfe in St Austell, which could be turned into flats, is also missed.

Of Britannia Inn, one person said they used to "beeline" for the traditional pub with their father nearly 50 years ago while waiting for their van to be serviced. "Although we were very infrequent customers the landlord never forgot our names," they said.
"Delicious ales and schooners of sherry before having plates of fish and chips in Lemon Street."
And that wasn't its only mention.
One person said they missed the Wheelhouse in Falmouth. "It was like delving into the eighteenth century with its quirkiness and authenticity of cooking freshly caught shellfish to perfection." They said the Wheelhouse would forever be in their heart.
One brought up "special place" Auberge Asterisk, which used to be at Roche Victoria. "A one-man show where the chef served you as well as cooked your meals and he made you feel exceptionally special, despite how busy he must have been," they added. "Truly some of the most delicious food I've ever eaten and such a special place."
The Old Custom House in St Ives is also dearly missed with the chef dubbed "a genius". "Gutted when it closed," they said. There were also a couple mentions of The Thin End in St Austell, famous for its delicious cakes that have actually somewhat been reborn in Pentewan if you're missing them.
The Wheelhouse in Falmouth was also a popular mention. It closed suddenly in July of 2022 despite being widely referred to as the best restaurant in Cornwall. See below for a list of the other restaurants our readers miss:
The Boslowick Inn, Falmouth
The Cheesewring Hotel, Minions
