The works are expected to take two years and will be carried out between spring and autumn from 11pm to 6am, i.e. during the flight ban at night. The renovations are thus not expected to have any impact on regular air traffic.
Luxembourg Airport’s runway has been in need of renovation for some time. During winter, it had become a regular occurrence that the runway had to be closed off due to holes.
It is planned to completely replace the old tarmac and bring the runway up to date, according to Lux-Airport. This also includes a new drainage system and LED lighting.
