The Luxembourg City section of the Greens have expressed disappointment with the Luxembourg City council for its five years of “just administering, not actively shaping” the capital, the party said in a press conference.
It offered a number of suggestions to the DP-CSV coalition, but wants to take charge in the next municipal elections.
Looking ahead to winter and the energy supply issues, the Greens believe that the municipality should conserve more energy by shortening the ‘Winterlights’ spectacle and by reducing shop lighting as well as the lights around tourist attractions. Furthermore, administrative buildings should be made more energy-efficient.

The party also advocates for more green spaces in the capital, which would allow for the urban cityscape to cool down more efficiently during summer. It is therefore of upmost importance to consider plants and grass once the Place de la Constitution around the ‘Golden Lady’ is being reorganised, underlined Greens officials.
Avenue Pasteur in Limpertsberg was meanwhile cited as an example of how not to do things. Since the capital’s population keeps growing, it is also important to continue expanding the tram network, stressed party officials. Safe bicycle lanes are of great importance too, as well as closing gaps in the network.
The party also wishes to boost the attractiveness of some schools in the capital by offering information days and forging better communication between them. Playgrounds could be transformed from concrete squares to having more green, the party further explains. This also helps reduce heat in hot summers and create spots of shade.
