Defence minister François Bausch (déi Gréng) on 25 April revealed that the grand duchy so far had given €50m to support Ukraine.
Sixty days after the start of the Russian invasion on Ukraine, Luxembourg has made its commitment to Ukraine clear. Discussions on Monday 25 April between the foreign affairs and internal security and defence commissions revealed that the state had provided more than defensive weapons, as reported by RTL.
The grand duchy on 28 February had announced it would provide Ukrainian forces with 100 anti-tank weapons, jeeps and 15 military tents. Luxembourg also contributed to a collective €250m aid package from the European Union.
A few weeks later, during a worldwide pledging event, prime minister Xavier Bettel (DP) said the grand duchy would donate another €3m. In addition to the fifty tons of medical and firefighting equipment sent by the Luxembourg emergency services to their Ukrainian counterparts, the grand duchy has also donated emergency.lu telecommunication material.
While the head of the internal security commission Stéphanie Empain could not tell Delano the exact breakdown of the financial aid provided to Ukraine as the meeting happened behind closed doors, the déi Gréng deputy confirmed the total of €50m.
