The invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces on 24 February 2022 caused an unprecedented wave of indignation among local and regional authorities across Europe and beyond. In Luxembourg, in the latest move to welcome those displaced from Ukraine, the Federation of Municipalities (SYVICOL) launched a webpage on support for Ukrainian refugees. The page showcases initiatives already being run in the country, in order to encourage and inspire similar action by others.
The SYVICOL committee is calling all municipalities in Luxembourg to show their solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people. Many have been organising humanitarian aid by whatever means they can, but as hostilities continue and the scale of the destruction grows the need for support will increase. SYVICOL also collaborates with the Association of Ukrainian Cities, and is able to directly connect Luxembourgish municipalities with authorities in Ukraine for the delivery of humanitarian aid to those living in Ukraine.
