Luxembourg’s passport has been ranked in the fourth position in the Henley Passport Index, meaning that the country has the fourth most powerful passport worldwide in terms of the number of destinations their holders can access without a visa.
According to the recent changes made to this index in July, compared to last year’s ranking, Luxembourg’s passport moved from the third to the fourth position; however, it has never dropped lower than sixth place, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
The positioning in the fourth place means that holders of the Grand Duchy passport are eligible to visit a total of 189 destinations without being required to apply for a visa at first.
The index revealed that Japan continues to have the world’s most powerful passport in terms of visa-free travel, permitting those who obtain this passport to visit 193 destinations without a visa.
At the same time, the Henley Passport Index, which takes into account the data of the International Air Travel Association (IATA), revealed that Singapore and South Korea are placed in the second position, while both countries have a visa-free and visa-on-arrival score of 192.
The report also shows that European countries continue to occupy the first positions.
Based on this index, Germany and Spain have been considered to have the most powerful passports in Europe.
Previously, Germany was ranked in the second position on Henley Passport Index, but now it shares third place with Spain, and both countries’ passports have visa-free and visa-on-arrival scores of 190, meaning that all people who hold these passports are able to travel visa-free to 190 destinations worldwide.
In the fourth position have been placed the following three European countries, while their passports have visa-free and visa-on-arrival scores of 189;
At the same time, the following four European countries have been ranked in fifth place, meaning that holders of these countries’ passports can travel visa-free to 188 destinations:
The index also shows that several countries’ passports have a visa-free and visa-on-arrival score of 40 or even lower, including the countries’ passports.
The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 passports in worldwide countries based on the number of destinations their holder can travel to without a visa.
