Machine Gun Kelly really hates the internet, so much so that the rap-rock superstar has woven his mammoth summer tour with a narrative of him battling a physical manifestation of the world-wide-web itself — a three-story-tall, gray inflatable humanoid being, with a boxy television for a head and LED screen depicting some sort of looming alien face.
“I am The Internet. I thought I put you in a box?” the monster bellowed Sunday night, rising from behind the stage. “The box” refers to the dismissive online conversations surrounding the Cleveland rapper, namely his polarizing pivot to pop-punk on his last two albums, 2020′s career redefining “Tickets to My Downfall” — the only rock album to hit No. 1 that year — and March’s shrewdly titled follow-up “Mainstream Sellout.”
