If you’ve ever planned a trip to a Disney theme park, you understand how difficult it can be to get a table at some of the parks’ more popular restaurants. Now, the company is making that process a whole lot easier by implementing technology changes to its reservation system.
Before, Disney allowed guests to begin booking reservations online for resort restaurants 60 days before they arrive for vacation, a system that has been in place for years.
However, the company announced on August 2 that it is making a change on both its Disney World and Disneyland websites (and reportedly, its apps, in time) which allows guests to browse more reservation times at once, in an attempt to make planning multiple mealtimes easier.

The old system would allow guests to choose a restaurant and see a selection of reservation times to pick from in their date window, but the list shown was not entirely inclusive of what was available. In the technology update, the new system allows guests to choose a restaurant and see all the reservation times available for their selected date(s), providing guests with more options and control.
Additionally, the system will also behoove visitors who may not have a particular eatery in mind, but know what time of day they’d like to dine. With the revamped process, guests will be able to search for reservations on a certain day by time window (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) and see the openings within that window across all property restaurants, allowing even more flexibility.
These windows are helpful because they display which menus are available and when at each restaurant, which could impact price or extra experiences available, such as character meet-and-greets.

Disney also recently made it easier to change plans altogether. Because let’s be honest, plans change—especially on vacation! Guests can now cancel a dining reservation up to two hours before the scheduled time without incurring a cancellation fee, versus the previous 24-hour cutoff.
Disneyland’s website has already been updated to include the new changes, with Disney World’s expected to follow suit in the coming days. Meanwhile, both parks’ apps are set for an upcoming system update, though a date has not been specified.
As for reservation slots, they will still go live every day at 6 AM on the park websites, and as always, you need a park entrance ticket if you plan to eat at any of the park restaurants on-site.
