KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) — Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 4.6 percent in October, supported by expansion in mining and manufacturing sectors, according to official data.
The mining index rose 8.6 percent in October, while the manufacturing index climbed 4.2 percent, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement on Monday.
The electricity index, however, recorded a decline of 1.9 percent.
As for month-on-month comparison, the IPI decreased by 1 percent as against positive growth of 1.3 percent registered in the previous month.
For the period of January to October, the IPI expanded 7.5 percent as compared to the same period of the previous year.
The increase was supported by the manufacturing index (9.1 percent); electricity index (5.4 percent) and mining index (2.3 percent). ■
