The Pandemic-Driven Migration Boom in the U.S. Is Slowing
The portion of U.S. home buyers looking to move to a new metro area declined for the third straight month in November, according to Redfin. At 23.9%, that’s the lowest percentage in 18 months and down from 24.1% the year before—the first annual decline on record. With remote work becoming less flexible and increased prices in pandemic boomtowns, moving to a different metro area has become less compelling to potential home buyers. Migration in the U.S. is still above pandemic levels, though, as many Americans chased affordability during the least affordable house-buying year on record. World Property Journal
Private Island in Victoria, Australia, With Two Houses and Helipad Sells
Elizabeth Island in southern Victoria, Australia—a private island with two homes and a helipad—sold at the end of December for an undisclosed amount. The secluded island is located in Western Port Bay, southeast of Melbourne, and offers 26.1 hectares of land. The main residence has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, while a new villa has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Hong Kong Home Sales Hit 33-Year Low
Home sales in Hong Kong in 2023 sunk to the lowest level in 33 years, as a poor economic outlook and high interest rates kept potential buyers on the sidelines. A total of 58,023 properties changed hands over the course of last year, a 2.7% decline from 2022, according to Centaline Property Agency. The total sales value also plunged, dropping 13.9% annually to a 10-year low of HK$477.6 billion (US$61 billion). Auction of Tyler Perry’s Former Atlanta-Area Mansion Expected Early This Year
Actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry’s former chateau-style home outside of Atlanta is available for sale. The 16,000-square-foot mansion, which appeared in Perry’s 2005 film “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” is listed for $4 million and is expected to be auctioned sometime early this year, as its November 2023 auction was canceled. Located in the Chattahoochee Hills neighborhood of Fairburn, Georgia, the six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bathroom home sits on 11 acres and includes features like a music room, a home theater, a gym and an infinity-edge pool. Perry bought the land in 2001, and the home was completed in 2003. He sold the property in 2018 for $2.19 million. Realtor.com
