The National Hockey League Players’ Association will brings its 12th annual Rookie Showcase to MedStar Capitals IcePlex. The Capitals’ practice facility in Arlington will host more than 30 prospects and rookies from around the league on September 6.
The lone Caps player representative will be Hendrix Lapierre. He’ll join a group that includes the last two number one overall draft selections, Juraj Slafkovsky and Owen Power.

One of the primary purposes of the event is that it allows Upper Deck, the league’s exclusive trading card partner, to snap photos and take videos of the game’s top youngsters. They’ll then use that media for upcoming trading card product releases and promotions.
For example, here’s a card out of their 2019-20 SP Game Used product. It features a photo of Mitch Marner taken at the 2015 Rookie Showcase event, patches from his event-worn sweater, and his autograph.

Past Rookie Showcase attendees from the Caps include Alexander Alexeyev, Madison Bowey, Andre Burakovsky, and Tom Wilson.

2022 NHLPA ROOKIE SHOWCASE RETURNS SEPT. 6 TO WASHINGTON, DC
TORONTO (Aug. 23, 2022) – The National Hockey League Players’ Association will host its 12th annual NHLPA Rookie Showcase Tuesday, Sept. 6 at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va., with more than 30 NHL® prospects and rookies scheduled to attend. This unique event provides Upper Deck the official trading card partner of the NHLPA and the NHL with an opportunity to capture photographs and videos of many of the game’s top young prospects and rookies in their official NHL team uniforms. The content collected will be used for upcoming Upper Deck trading cards and related promotional materials.
