Due to the ongoing sanctions against Huawei by the US, companies based in the US or foreign companies that rely on US technology to make their products or services are not allowed to work with Huawei.
This has affected Huawei’s operations in a huge way, especially its smartphones where Huawei had to create its alternative to Android in the form of HarmonyOS.
For the most part, HarmonyOS has been found only on Huawei’s smartphones, but it looks like it’s starting to make its way to other smartphone brands, such as Gionee Mobile who appears to be the first smartphone company apart from Huawei to use HarmonyOS in its smartphones, starting with the Gionee G13 Pro.
The phone in question appears to be an entry-level device priced at 529 yuan which is roughly $83 when converted, so it’s not as if another company is taking a chance on a flagship device to run HarmonyOS. That being said, there is some contention about the authenticity of the device as some are claiming that this could be some form of propaganda, so we’ll just be taking this at face value for now.
The specs of the phone don’t appear to be particularly exciting where it comes with a 6.26-inch display and is powered by a UNISOC Tiger T310 chipset. It will come with a 13MP + 5MP camera setup and a 3,500mAh battery.
