POLICE CAR CHECKS-The police will launch its annual winter controls of motorised vehicles in Luxembourg today. The checks will be made until December 17. Authorities will primarily focus on two winter safety aspects: proper visibility and the adequate technical state of the vehicle. Those who fail to comply with regulations will not be fined right away but have 5 days to get issues fixed.
ROUDY RACING– A new Luxembourg-themed mobile game that allows players to race through the streets of the capital is now available. ‘Roudy Racing’ is a 3D racing game that lets players take control over an animated red lion and race across the streets of Luxembourg City. The game is exclusively available for smartphones and can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.
NATO EXERCISES – Air forces from across NATO will exercise nuclear deterrence capabilities, involving dozens of aircraft over north-western Europe starting today. NATO are emphasizing that the exercise is routine and it is not linked to a the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Training flights will take place over Belgium, which is hosting the exercise, as well as over the North Sea and the United Kingdom.
KYIV ATTACK – At least three explosions have been heard in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv this morning. Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said residential buildings in the central area which includes the historic old town and government offices have been hit. It comes a week after the capital was hit by several Russian missiles, in a nationwide attack which left 19 dead.
EU UKRAINE – The Ukraine war is also a topic at the meeting of EU foreign ministers today in Luxembourg. In addition to further aid to Ukraine, discussions will also centre around sanctions against Iran and the relationship with China. EU ministers for fisheries are also meeting in Luxembourg. They will discuss the amount of fish that can be caught in the Baltic Sea.
FOOTBALL BALLON D’OR – Karim Benzema is the overwhelming favourite to win the men’s Ballon d’Or at a ceremony in Paris tonight and thereby become the first Frenchman to claim the most prestigious individal prize in football since Zinedine Zidane nearly 25 years ago. There are 30 nominees, but the Real Madrid striker is the outstanding candidate after his remarkable performances last season helped his club win the Champions League and La Liga. Benzema scored 44 goals in 46 games for his club including 15 in the Champions League.
NEYMAR TRIAL – staying with football legends, with the World Cup barely a month away, Brazilian superstar Neymar goes on trial in Spain today over alleged irregularities in his transfer to Barcelona nearly a decade ago.The trial is the culmination of a years-long legal saga over his 2013 transfer from the Brazilian club Santos. Neymar is one of nine defendants on trial on corruption-related charges, among them his parents and their company, which manages his affairs. All three are facing charges of business corruption. Meanwhile Neymar scored the only goal of the game as Paris Saint-Germain maintained their unbeaten record this season and moved three points clear at the top of Ligue 1 by beating rivals Marseille 1-0 on Sunday.
Well maybe not ‘hot’ hot, but definitely high temperatures considering it’s mid October. We are talking up to 23°C!! And while the weather should stay dry during the day, the risk for rain will increase towards the evening. Morning temperatures start off at 12-15°C, rising to between 19 and 23°C in the afternoon.
