Historic Chicago Home Looking to Change Hands for the Second Time in a Century
An historic mansion in Elgin, a Chicago suburb, is ready to change hands for just the second time in more than 100 years after hitting the market for $650,000. The Victorian-era Pelton Mansion has been owned by two families since it was built in 1889 and is registered with the National Historic Society. “The mansion features stunning architectural details, including stick style, clapboard siding, projecting gables and sculptured chimneys in East Lake style,” the listing with Coldwell Banker said. Majority of U.S. Consumers Say It’s a Bad Time to Buy a Home
The share of U.S. consumers who believe it’s a bad time to buy a home reached 82%, the highest level in at least 13 years, in July, according to a survey from lending giant Fannie Mae. A one-bedroom yurt in Hawaii has come to the market with a very unusual feature—a lava cavern. The property in Mountain View is asking $179,000. “Located just off the back porch is an entrance to a natural lava tube,” which was discovered in 2009, when the seller intended to install a cesspool, but got about 6 feet down and opened up a skylight into the deep, lava cavern, according to the listing. “Exploration of the cavern uncovered many forms of stalagmites and stalactites that had naturally formed over many, many years,” the listing said.
