Summer is leaving but not before giving us some old-time religion and more of our movie favorites.
Just in time for Labor Day, Sterling K. Brown and Regina Hall work hard to bring hilarity and heart as leaders of a Southern Baptist megachurch in a new mockumentary while Colson Baker (aka Machine Gun Kelly) rides the bus in an action thriller opposite Kevin Bacon. But that’s just among the fresh flicks; a few recent blockbusters are worth revisiting, too, as they roll out with new footage. (And if you’re hitting up a theater, be sure to get your $3 tickets on Saturday for National Cinema Day.)
So if you need a film this long holiday weekend? We got you, fam. Here’s a guide to satisfying every cinematic taste:

Director Adamma Ebo’s comedy centers on Atlanta pastor/showman Lee-Curtis Childs (Brown) and his faithful wife Trinitie (Hall) as they navigate various obstacles in relaunching their church following a public scandal. Brown’s a hoot but Hall, as the emotional center, is what makes this satire sing.

In the final days of World War II, a Soviet intelligence officer (Charlotte Vega) and her unit have to transport Hitler’s corpse from Berlin to Moscow, a harrowing mission pitting them against Nazi loyalist werewolves (and not the kind you might expect). The uber-tense thriller features a nifty supernatural-y bent, a fascinating premise and surprising depth.

The horror comedy centers on a married couple (Ryan Hansen and Melissa Tang) new to the Hollywood Hills who throw a housewarming bash, though their uninvited rich neighbors (Timothy Granaderos and Perry Mattfeld) turn into a sinister nuisance when they won’t leave.
