Keeping Up With the Sussexes, anyone?
Remember when the buzziest royal goss was about
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan? No? Because you’ve forgotten royal gossip even really existed before Harry’s memoir, Spare, came out and redefined royal gossip and drama forever? Yeah, same.
You might think Netflix execs would be sending Harry and Meghan constant, never-ending side-eye, considering how tame and bombshell-free Harry & Meghan seems when you compare it to the atomic-level bombshells dropped multiple times in the pages of Spare, but apparently that’s not the case. In fact, according to The Sun, the Powers That Be at Netflix see the post-Spare landscape as the perfect opportunity to do a fly-on-the-wall, Keeping Up With the Kardashians-style reality show with the Sussexes.
"Harry’s memoir has certainly been a talking point, and while many may think that executives would be annoyed at the volume of revelations in Spare versus the show, in truth they were different scenarios," a source The Sun describes as an "LA-based consultant, who works with Netflix," said of the Sussex reality show talks happening behind closed doors at Netflix HQ. "They scored great viewing figures and want a second bite of the pie. The gloves are off now for Harry, and Netflix feels they are in prime position for a second project."
That (currently purely imaginary/hopeful) second project would document Harry and Meghan navigating the new state of their lives and family drama in the post-Spare era and, admittedly, that *would* be some pretty enticing royal tea/a compelling reason for royal fans to keep their Netflix subscriptions active amid the streaming wars.
"Moving forward, the aftermath of what happens to Harry and Meghan will be fascinating to viewers," the anonymous LA-based consultant/Netflix insider explained. "We know that the couple films material all the time, so there remains a treasure trove left, which could make for dynamite viewing."
The source added that Netflix would insist on more access (and, presumably, more juicy exclusive content) if the Sussexes wanted to greenlight a reality show project.
"For such a deal to move forward, the couple would have to open up the doors of their Montecito home," the insider said. "There is no doubt audiences have been excited by watching Harry speak about his life. The interest remains huge."
Don’t know about you, but can’t lie, I would add Keeping Up With the Sussexes to my Netflix queue right this damn second if I could.
